Wednesday's decision of the Monetary Policy Council to reduce interest rates will be beneficial from the point of view of the Polish economy – said the Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański on Friday. He also assured that access to cash is very important and must remain.


Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański was asked on Friday on TVN 24 about the Wednesday decision of the Republic of Poland to reduce interest rates by 25 points of databases. “This is a fairly common view that the conditions to reduce interest rates in Poland are very good – we have falling inflation,” said Domański. At the same time, he reminded that, according to the forecasts of his ministry in July, inflation would be 3 percent, “that is, very close to the NBP goal.”
“Is I enjoying this decision? Yes. I think that it will be beneficial from the point of view of the Polish economy, from the point of view of accelerating credit, from the point of view of Poles' abilities to make purchases” – added the minister.
The head of the Ministry of Finance was also asked about the words of the NBP president Adam Glapiński, who argued on Thursday that cash should stay in circulation, because “cash is freedom”. “From the very beginning, I emphasize that cash, access to cash is very important and must remain” – emphasized Domański.
At the same time, he assessed that in his opinion “this is a bit of scaring from some political parties, that we will limit access to cash.” “There are no such plans, there are no such intentions,” he assured.
“We all pay with cards, telephones, gadgets with which you can pay. And this is a trend, we see him in Poland, we see him in the world that these non -cash transactions gain importance. At the same time, cash must stay; has an element of freedom, some anonymity when it comes to payment, which for some is associated with freedom,” he added.
Domański was also asked about the so -called “windmill act”, freezing energy prices. The minister expressed the hope that President Andrzej Duda would seriously treat the interest of millions of Polish families and sign the law. ” “We will do absolutely everything so that energy prices are not only at the level, which is currently frozen, but even lower,” he assured.

The Monetary Policy Council (RPP) on Wednesday at the end of the two -day meeting decided to lower interest rates by 25 base points. The Council's decision means that the main interest rate and reference rates have decreased to 5 percent. on an annual basis. The lombard rate will be 5.50 percent on an annual scale, deposit rate 4.50 percent, 5.05 percent bills of exchange rates, and the discount rate of the bills of exchange 5.10 percent. on an annual basis.
According to the assumptions of monetary policy developed by the MPC, the goal of the NBP is to maintain inflation – understood as a percentage annual change in the price index of consumer goods and services – at 2.5 percent. with a symmetrical compartment of +/- percentage width in the medium period.
Last week, the Sejm adopted an amendment to the so -called windmill law, which, among others It reduces the minimum distance of wind turbines from buildings to 500 m. The Act also includes provisions on freezing energy prices by the end of the year at the level of PLN 500 net per MWh. Currently, freezing is valid until the end of September this year.
The amendment liberalizes the regulations regarding the construction of wind farms, including Also introducing the so -called Participatory Fund for the inhabitants of the neighborhood of future wind farms. During the second reading in the Sejm, the Polish 2050 amendment was introduced into the project, providing for the extension of freezing electricity prices for households for the fourth quarter of 2025.
