Russian general: “Trump will not save Zelenski.” The complicated relationship between Washington and Kyiv, seen by the potential successor of the Chechen Leader

A high Russian military official states that US President Donald Trump will not intervene in support of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, even though both leaders are involved in indirect negotiations on a possible resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The declaration belongs to the general-Major Apti Alaudinov, deputy of the main military-political direction of the Russian army and commander of the special units of Akhmat, subordinated to the Russian Defense Ministry.

In an interview with the Tass news agency, Alaudinov questioned the seriousness of Trump's seriousness, suggesting that the former American leader is “volatile” and “unpredictable” in his approaches.

“I don't think Trump will save Zelenski, because the latter has made too many mistakes for Trump to defend him.”Alaudinov said.

A tense but still functional relationship

The relationships between Trump and Zelenski were marked by tensions, the most notorious episode being the 2019 scandal that led to the first process of dismissing the American president, accused of having conditioned the military aid for obtaining compromising information about his political rival, Joe Biden. Tensions reappeared in February this year, during a meeting at the White House, when Trump, Zelenski and US Vice -President JD Vance had a tense replica in front of the press.

Although later the relationship seems to have been repaired, fundamental divergences regarding the way of managing the war in Ukraine and positioning towards Russia persists. Trump has repeatedly stated that he is willing to “make peace” and that he can reach a quick understanding with Moscow, but refused to categorically condemn Vladimir Putin's actions.

In this context, Zelenski called for the military support from Washington and a firmer pressure on the Kremlin.

Trump, a leader who “can change his strategy”

Alaudinov suggested that Trump could at any time withdraw his promises or completely change his approach, which makes any support for Ukraine. “He can come back to a promise, then make a new one, then change his strategy. He is constrained by anything,” said Russian general, quoted by Tass.

In his opinion, in global politics, including in relation to the US, Russia must act exclusively in its own interest. “We need to understand that Russia has only one true friend: she herself. Everyone else is relative friends,” said Aladinov.

He added that Moscow must play his “own game” in the international arena, without seeking the validation of other powers: “We have two allies: the army and the navy.”

General Alaudinov's statements reflect not only Kremlin's skepticism towards Western commitments, but also a strategic vision in which their own interests prevail, and alliances are perceived as temporary and conditioned by the context. In this equation, the future of relations between Washington, Kiev and Moscow remains deeply uncertain and volatile.
