In 2024, an increase in housing costs was a factor quite strongly affecting the level of inflation. We check if these costs are still increasing.

The May reading of inflation turned out to be smaller than previous estimates. Prices in an annual basis increased by 4.0%. This result is a 0.3 percentage point smaller than April. Experts of the RynekPierwotny.pl portal, therefore, decided to check whether the growth rate of housing costs also fell, which in 2024 quite clearly affected inflation readings.

The table below presents changes in costs related to the use of an apartment/house in an annual basis (May 2024 – May 2025) and a five -month perspective, i.e. a comparison of the cost level of December 2024 and May 2025. Taking into account this year's changes is important because we see that we see that the rate of housing inflation has stopped. During the year, the increase in prices of goods and services from the general category “using an apartment or house and energy carriers” amounted to 10.6%, but this year's change is only 2.2%.

Attention is also drawn to the fact that in an annual basis, the current increased by almost 20%, which was a consequence of increases from the middle of the past year. However, from December 2024, electricity has made up for a symbolic 0.2%. Much larger decreases concerned fuel prices. In turn, it is worried about the growth rate of costs associated with garbage collection. For a year, the costs increased by 12%, and only from December by less than 9%.
