Russia President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that relations between Moscow and Washington are starting to stabilize, putting the situation on the efforts of his American counterpart, Donald Trump. The Kremlin leader also spoke about the Ukraine war, saying that the proposals of the Russian and Ukrainian part are “absolutely contradictory”, AFP and Reuters report.

The leader of Russia has reiterated that he was having a “great respect” to US President Donald Trump and said he was willing to have a meeting with him. Although such a summit would require careful preparations, Vladimir Putin considers it “quite possible”.

“In general, thanks to President Trump, relations between Russia and the United States are beginning to balance in certain respects,” Putin said on a press conference on Minsk.

“It was not decided also in the sphere of diplomatic relations, but the first steps were taken and we go ahead,” added the Russian president.

What did he say about the Ukraine war

In the same press conference, Vladimir Putin said that Russia and Ukraine peace proposals are “absolutely contradictory”, but that this is not a surprise and that the parties talk about a new round of discussions.

“As for the memorandums, as expected, nothing surprising happened … These are two absolutely contradictory memorandums,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Thursday, the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rustem Humorov, said the next Kiev objective in negotiations with Moscow is to organize a direct meeting between presidents Volodimir Zelenski and Vladimir Putin, according to The Kyiv Independent.

“Ukraine has always remained consistent in search of peace,” said Umerov, who was part of the Ukrainian delegation from peace discussions. “We have supported the US initiative from the beginning for a full ceasefire and we have demonstrated our commitment through multiple rounds of negotiations. But any dialogue must take place without ultimatum and with full respect for our country's sovereignty,” Minister Umerov told Journalists on Thursday in Kiev.
