The former head of the Internal Security Agency, Piotr P., and the former head of the SKW, Maciej M., were charged on Wednesday in connection with admitting and using the Pegasus system, which did not have the required accreditation, and without checking whether the system met the requirements for the protection of classified information, the National Prosecutor's Office announced.

According to the spokesman of the National Prosecutor's Office, Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak, the acts of failure to fulfill duties charged against the suspects are punishable by imprisonment of up to three years. “In this case, there was no need to secure the proper course of proceedings by applying preventive measures to the suspects,” the prosecutor added.
The spokesman informed that both Piotr P. and Maciej M., who were questioned as suspects, did not admit to committing the acts they were accused of and refused to provide explanations.
The charges were presented by prosecutors from the Investigative Team No. 3 of the National Prosecutor's Office, which deals with the case of this system. The proceedings concern the abuse of powers and failure to fulfill duties by public officials; It examines, among others, the issue of the legality of operational and reconnaissance activities undertaken with the help of Pegasus, and the circumstances surrounding its use are also being investigated.
