The mandate with which President Nicușor Dan leaves at the NATO summit:

President Nicușor Danva supports the decisions regarding the gradual growth of defense budgets and the consolidation of the NATO discouragement and defense posture, the Presidential Administration reports in a press release announces the NATO Summit in Hague, June 24-25.

Also, Nicușor Dan will request to pay increased attention to the eastern flank and the Black Sea, a region of strategic importance for Euro -Atlantic security.

At the same time, the president will express the support of Romania in the long term for Ukraine, as well as for other countries exposed to the threat of Russia, especially the Republic of Moldova.

“The NATO Summit will be a major opportunity to reconfirm the unity and solidarity of the Allies, as well as the tranquility of the transatlantic relationship, which remains the foundation of the North Atlantic Alliance. For Romania, NATO membership, the strongest political-military alliance in history, has brought the most solid security guarantees in history,” the presidential administration mentions.

Within the summit, leaders are expected to make decisions regarding the increase of defense investments, to ensure the forces, capabilities, resources, infrastructure and resilience necessary to strengthen the NATO posture of discouragement and collective defense.

The president's program

The program of the summit will include a meeting at the highest level of the North Atlantic Council, as well as a series of protocol events.

On Tuesday evening, Nicușor Dan will participate in the reception offered by the King of the Netherlands, Willem Alexander. On Wednesday morning, he will participate in the NATO summit with the heads of state in the Allied countries.

In the end, he has a press conference scheduled and will have a meeting with the Romanian community in the Netherlands.

It is the first trip of Nicușor Dan to a NATO summit from taking over the mandate of president on May 26.
