Explosives hidden in sex toys and cosmetics. Supposed Russian sabotage, investigated in Poland

At first glance, three packages sent to courier deposits in the UK, Germany and Poland seemed to contain only ordinary products, such as massage pillows, false cosmetics and sex toys. In fact, they hid artisan incendiary devices. It is believed that these actions are part of the Moscow hybrid war against the West.

According to an investigation published by Reuters, which cites a source close to the Poland investigation, the devices were detonated on July 19-21, 2024 in the city of Birmingham (UK), Leipzig (Germany) and near Warsaw (Poland), without causing victim.
The investigation of the European authorities indicates that these actions were part of an alleged plot of sabotage orchestrated by Russian secret services, within a so-called “Hybrid war” taken against Western countries supporting Ukraine.
The chemicals used, including reactive magnesium and flammable gel based on nitromethane, were concealed in containers that mimic cosmetics. The artisan detonators were adapted from Chinese gadgets, usually used to locate lost objects, such as keys.
According to Reuters source, investigators have identified a connection between these actions and GRU, Russia's military intelligence. European security officials claim that the methods used correspond to the GRU print: the recruitment of local offenders for punctual missions, paid with several thousand euros and trained minimally.
A key character of the plot would be a Russian known under the nickname “Warrior”, And the network communication would have been done through the Telegram application, with a code word: “Mary”.
The ingredients used were easily accessible in stores that sell fertilizers or pyrotechnic items, according to expert Jaroslaw Stelmach, a former bomb defamation specialist.
Although the Kremlin firmly rejected any involvement by calling the accusations “Rusophobe” and “Unfounded”, The investigation continues, and the sources quoted by Reuters say that the exploded packages would have been a test for a future sabotage operation on board Cargo flights to the US and Canada.
