Tatum Nzekwesi, the wife of the pivot from the men's basketball team of CSM Oradea, Emmanuel Nzekwesi (28 years old), told on her personal Instagram account an incident that took place this weekend, around the Epiphany.
According to tradition, their house was visited by a priest to sprinkle holy water on the house, a custom that marks the Christian holiday that takes place on January 6.
Tatum testified that she was taken by surprise by the unexpected visit, not understanding why the priest entered the house and sprinkled holy water on their home.
How did the wife of a basketball player from Oradea react when the priest came with the Epiphany
Although the experience was unexpected, the wife of the athlete registered in Oradea stated that she did not feel disturbed, as she is a Christian and received the holy water willingly. However, she mentioned that she would have appreciated a little explanation beforehand, to better understand what the tradition was all about.
Below is the story she told on social media:
“I was just very shocked by something that happened to me. I'm an American living in Romania, okay? I hear a bell: “ding-ding”. And I think: is it coming from outside? Is my mother-in-law on the phone? I don't know.
So I follow the sound. I go outside and there is a priest with some plants. It was as if he was sprinkling holy water over all our apartments. He sees us, does this and then goes about his day as if nothing happened. And I'm: what's going on? Then we close the door.
I don't know if it's a tradition today. Catholics are celebrating something, that's how I know. Maybe he was a Catholic priest, I'm not sure. Personally, I don't mind. I'm a Christian, so I say: ok, give me the holy water. But I feel like maybe there should have been a discussion about what was going on. I have no idea.
I'm really taken aback because it was so random. I mean I was in the middle of cleaning the kitchen and I hear this bell. I go outside, there's a priest splashing water on my door. Do you understand what I mean? If you could help me understand what just happened, that would be great. OK. I don't want to be rude or anything like that,” said Tatum Nzekwesi on Instagram.
