A Colombian right -wing senator who will run for president of the country has been shot and wounded “serious”, on Saturday, during a campaign rally in the capital Bogota, BBC and Sky News transmit.

Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, was shot on Saturday while addressing a small crowd in a park in the Fontibon area of ​​the Colombian capital, according to the Attorney General's Office. The police arrested a 15 -year -old suspect on the spot, according to the local press.

The paramedics said that the senator was shot on his knees and twice in the head, AFP news agency said. He was transported by helicopter to Sante Fe Hospital, where his supporters gathered to find out about his condition.

According to a medical report from Santa Fe Hospital, it was admitted to “critical condition” and underwent a “neurosurgical and peripheral procedure”.

Two other people were injured, but it is not known how serious.

A 15 -year -old suspect was arrested on the spot and is treated for a foot injury, said the police chief, General Carlos Triana.

Uibe Turbay, who announced his presidential candidacy from the right-wing center in March, was accompanied by a team of 21 people at the time of shooting, his office said.

He wants to apply for the presidential elections that will take place on May 31, 2026 and succeed to President Gustavo Petro, the first left leader of the country.

Uribe comes from a prominent political family in Colombia, having links with the country's Liberal Party. His father was a trade union leader and businessman.
