Hungary leave MTK. There is a confirmation


As the agency reminds, Orban then ignored the arrest of the Israeli leader for alleged war crimes. Hungary is the signatories of the MTK founding card, which means that they would be obliged to stop Netanyahu after his arrival.

“We make this decision because we do not want to be (longer) a part of the politicized institution that has lost its impartiality and credibility” – said Szijjarto while voting in parliament.
The head of Hungarian diplomacy presented on Tuesday in the parliament a request to leave MTK in connection with previous declarations of the government of Viktor Orban, submitted at the beginning of April during a visit to Budapest, the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanjahu.
Netanyahu case before the MTK
Netanyahu, close to Orban's ally, is wanted by the MTK in connection with the charge of committing war crimes during the war with Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In the second half of April, the Chamber of Appeal of the MTK in The Hague repealed the arrest warrant of Netanyahu and the former defense minister Joawa Galant, published by the lower chamber of the Tribunal in November 2024. As explained at the time, the daily “Jerusalem Post” explained, in practice it means that the matter of Israel remains “frozen” until MTK will end the next interrogation of the page a few months or longer.
The process of leaving the MTK through Hungary will take a year from the moment of notification of this decision of the UN Secretary General.

Although Hungary is a member of the MTK, the Roman statute establishing the Tribunal has not been announced in this country because he was considered inconsistent with the Hungarian constitution. In connection with this situation, the authorities in Budapest stated that in the event of arrival in Hungary, Russian leaders Vladimir Putin, prosecuted by MTK, will not be arrested
