Russian President Vladimir Putin estimated on Monday that discussions with Ukraine are on the “right path” after Friday's calls in Istanbul, when the first direct meeting between Ukrainians and Russians from the beginning of the Russian offensive was held in Ukraine more than three years ago, AFP reports.

The contacts “Between the participants in this meeting and the negotiations in general have been resumed. This shows that we are on the right track,” the Kremlin leader told the press, immediately after the telephone conversation with his American counterpart Donald Trump.

Putin also stated that Russia is “prepared to collaborate” with Ukraine for the elaboration of a “memorandum” regarding “a possible peace treaty”.
