The annual inflation rate stagnated in April / Sugar was expensive but cheaper the corn

The annual inflation rate stagnated, in April, to 4.9%, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics. The data show that food prices had an insignificant increase compared to March, of 0.07%, while non -food goods registered a slight decrease of 0.65%.
The biggest increases were in fruits and canned fruit (3.48%), sugar (1.14%), cocoa and coffee (1.5%). Instead, there were easy cheaps to wine, cheese, bakery and corn.
Compared to the same month last year, food prices rose by 5.57% and for non -food products the price increase was 3.53%.
'The consumer price index in April 2025 compared to March 2025 was 100.07%. The inflation rate from the beginning of the year (April 2025 compared to December 2024) was 2.2%. The annual inflation rate in April 2025 compared to April 2024 was 4.9%. The average rate of the change of consumption prices in the last 12 months (May 2024 – April 2025) compared to the previous 12 months (May 2023 – April 2024) was 5.0%', the Ins statement said.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has increased, to 3.8%, from 3.5% anterior, the inflation forecast for the end of 2025 and anticipates that it will reach 3.1% at the end of 2026, according to the data presented in February by the BNR governor.
