Gawkowski: Musk or Zuckerberg will not be our digital men

When I look at how much digital giants earn, I have the impression that their appetites are inexhaustible. They want to eat not only the data that they supply their advertising engines, but the whole citizen to control it – said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digitization Krzysztof Gawkowski at the Monday “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

In an interview with “GW”, Deputy Prime Minister was asked, among others O DSA, i.e. EU law on digital services, enabling control over BIG TECHAMS.

“Already this week we will take an important step related to the implementation of DSA in Poland. The Council of Ministers is to designate the coordinator of digital services. In the next step we will adopt a bill implementing the DSA (…). We prefer to pass this right calmly, after the election, so that no one has a shadow of doubt that we want to influence democratic elections in any way,” said Gawkowski.

“When I look at how much digital giants earn, I have the impression that their appetites are inexhaustible. They would like to eat not only the data that they supply their advertising engines, but the whole citizen to control it. This is digital colonialism that we cannot agree to” – said Gawkowski.

“Closing your eyes to TOh that Bezos, Musk or Zuckerberg has the right to be our digital master, it ended when societies decided that having slaves was bad. Digital slaves can also exist, and the task of the Ministry of Digitization is to talk about it loudly. We must explain what modern digitization is for a citizen, also for his social status, “he noted.

The minister of digitization was also asked about actions to limit – in the context of elections – disinformation from Russia.

“According to our information, the Russian services planned and are still planning a number of disinformation activities, cyber attacks on critical infrastructure, campaigns to destabilize social moods in Poland. Until the end of the election, there is still a bit left. I put special emphasis here for the second round of voting. It will be strictly polarizing. And the election will end when there is a SN resolution” – he said.

He added that the Umbrella Electoral Program was created, which was to help with false information thanks to cooperation with social platforms. (PAP)
