Under the new provision, a life sentence is prescribed for anyone who causes the death of a woman due to discrimination and hatred and as a result of control and domination. Femicide was also considered a crime resulting from a woman's refusal to establish or maintain a relationship and limiting her individual freedom.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed satisfaction with the unanimous support for the bill.

– This is an important signal of cohesion in the world of politics against the barbarity of violence against women – said the head of government.

In connection with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, celebrated on Tuesday, statistics were released showing that 76 crimes against women were committed in Italy in the first ten months of this year. A femicide occurs on average every three days, it was noted.
