The Rise and Fall of Rafał Zaorski: From Trading Guru to Arrest

Rafał Zaorski, who previously celebrated his massive gains, has seen his fortunes turn following a series of scandals. Initially known for live streaming his trading successes and boasting of a lavish lifestyle, he gained fame as a speculative guru. However, his reputation began to crumble as troubling information emerged, culminating in his arrest by authorities.
Zaorski made headlines by claiming to have earned 100 million zł in just a few months, which he insisted was less than half of his overall wealth. He became known for betting against the market, accurately predicting downturns in certain cryptocurrencies, which proved lucrative.
Wealth and Controversy
The year 2022 marked a peak for Zaorski, whose investment streams enjoyed widespread popularity while he amassed considerable wealth, only to later irretrievably lose it. Little did anyone know that his connections with the BitBay exchange and a missing person named Sylwester Suszek, who accused him of theft, would soon surface as serious issues.
Having established himself in investment circles, Zaorski was perceived as a no-nonsense individual, often dismissing the conventional investment elite in Warsaw, whom he derisively labeled as “fakes.” His self-confidence and defiance became his trademarks.
Zaorski’s public persona expanded when he purchased a luxury apartment in the Złota 44 skyscraper, using 23 million zł earned through speculation. However, his subsequent attempt to turn the property into 20,000 token shares for an “epic flip” was met with significant opposition from neighbors and ultimately blocked by the courts.
Instead, he sold the apartment for 30 million zł to a Turkish businessman later pursued by authorities for money laundering, according to reports.
Financial Troubles Amid Trade Wars
While Zaorski appeared to profit from the apartment sale, he soon lost over 50 million zł through his speculative activities. This turn of events marked the decline of his image as a trading guru. He subsequently announced a temporary withdrawal from trading to reevaluate his strategies and mindset.
As months passed, Zaorski faded from the spotlight until past controversies began to resurface.
Past Allegations Resurface
Among the issues was a lesser-known case dating back to 2024, when Zaorski was accused of insider trading related to Krypto Jam, a company he led in 2018 during negotiations with Merlin Group on a blockchain project. Prior to a public announcement that spiked Merlin’s stock by over 65%, Zaorski’s firm had purchased shares at significantly lower prices, leading to legal repercussions.
The court dismissed Zaorski’s defense of seizing a market opportunity, emphasizing that he exploited confidential information to gain an advantage. As a result, he faced a fine of 250,000 zł and additional court costs.
Links to BitBay and Ongoing Investigations
More serious challenges loom from his connection to BitBay, a cryptocurrency exchange tied to the disappeared Sylwester Suszek, who allegedly misappropriated client funds. Suszek blamed Zaorski, who had been his trusted associate, as the financial turmoil intensified.
Victims of Zaorski’s various business ventures, including social investment platform BigShortBets, accused him of leveraging new projects to pay off old debts.
Zaorski’s Arrest
On Wednesday afternoon, Zaorski was apprehended by the Cybercrime Bureau, taken into custody at a facility linked to the National Prosecutor’s Office for organized crime and corruption. Ongoing investigations regarding victims of the Zondacrypto scandal and Suszek’s case have been merged, further complicating Zaorski’s legal troubles.
