FCSB Secures 3-2 Victory Over Botoșani Amid Player Controversy

FCSB achieved a crucial 3-2 victory against FC Botoșani, with defender Valentin Crețu suggesting the win could signify a turning point for the team.
Crețu emphasized the significance of the three points while discussing Daniel Bîrligea’s return, the reactions from fans, and the scars left from their European elimination, leading into an upcoming derby against CFR Cluj.
“Winning is very important. We are now at the top! This is significant for the group and for us. We believed and secured the three points,” Crețu stated after the match.
“Bîrligea Played Impeccably! He Believed Until the End”
Daniel Bîrligea was a key player in this victory, scoring the decisive goal in stoppage time.
“I am truly happy for him. He works hard. His previous matches didn’t go well, and I’m pleased for him tonight. He helped us earn these three points, which is vital for us,” Crețu expressed.
Bîrligea celebrated both goals near the stands, and Crețu explained that this was in response to an unpleasant incident instigated by a supporter.
“There was a fan who, unfortunately, doesn’t know what they have against our families… They should address us, not our children or wives. Sadly… I’m glad for him because he played immaculately and believed until the end,” Crețu added.
“The supporters have always backed us, and it’s normal for them to be upset because they expect more from us. But we give our all and know what we’ve been through. We hope to be where we belong.” – Valentin Crețu, FCSB Defender
“We Are Playing Against the Best Team”
Crețu believes the win against Botoșani could be a pivotal moment for FCSB. He acknowledged that the game could have ended differently, but the team pressed on, continuing to attack until the final minutes.
“I would say it’s a hard-fought, important victory. We could have lost too, but we are playing against the best team and attacked throughout the match. Now we need to rest,” he commented.
“Honestly, it shouldn’t haunt us anymore, but you see, the supporters, the public… We are strong, and this victory is well-deserved. We hope to keep it up.”
“Since I’ve been here, I haven’t faced the bad luck we had in the match against Auda… When you score two valid goals that aren’t counted… Anyway. We focus on ourselves, and the team’s performance is what matters most,” Crețu said.
“I’m Not in a Position to Judge Systems”
The FCSB defender also discussed the tactical changes made during the match against Botoșani, starting with three defenders before reverting to four at halftime.
“We have players who can play in multiple positions. That’s how it was decided; we must fulfill our responsibilities to the best of our abilities. It’s never easy. I’m not in a position to judge the systems. I’m here to do my job as well as I can. I’m glad our second half went well, and we won,” he explained.
“Șumudică Prepares His Matches, Mobilizes Players”
FCSB’s next challenge is a particularly significant match: the derby against CFR Cluj, which will also coincide with the Romania Derby against Dinamo on September 5.
“It’s something I’ve never experienced before, playing an away derby, but we must rest, enjoy this victory, and approach the derby with great confidence,” he stated.
“The match against CFR Cluj is clearly a derby. I know they have a very good coach who prepares his matches well and mobilizes the players. It will be a tough game from our perspective,” Crețu concluded, referring to CFR’s new coach Marius Șumudică.
