At just 18 years old, Daria Vrînceanu achieved a remarkable feat by winning the silver medal in the triple jump at the U20 World Championships held in Oregon. The Romanian athlete led for most of the final but was overtaken in the final jump by Bulgaria’s Viktoria Angelova.
This impressive performance adds to Romania’s medal tally at the championships, following Ștefania Uță’s gold in the 400-meter hurdles. Vrînceanu, the European U20 vice-champion, delivered another outstanding performance by securing the silver.
Daria Vrînceanu Achieves Season’s Best Jump for Silver Medal
Vrînceanu entered the final with the top qualifying score. After a missed first jump, she nearly matched her personal best with a leap of 13.70 meters, putting her in the lead.
She held onto first place until the final round, where Angelova, the European champion, jumped 13.91 meters to move ahead. Vrînceanu had one last chance to reclaim the lead but ended with a jump of 13.69 meters, falling just short.
Ultimately, Daria Vrînceanu concluded the U20 World Championships in triple jump with a well-deserved silver medal, cementing her status as one of the top young talents in the event.
She was close to her career-best jump of 13.75 meters, achieved at the 2025 European U20 Championships where she finished second.
