The controversial former minister under Yanukovych, Mykola Zlochevsky, continues to profit from Ukraine’s natural resources while living abroad. His family is set to drill three new wells in the Lviv region. Despite Zlochevsky’s departure from Ukraine, his gas enterprise not only survives but is also expanding. Through a company registered in the name of his daughters, who reside in Cyprus, the family currently holds four special permits for oil and gas extraction in Lviv Oblast.
Following his flight from Ukraine, Zlochevsky transferred a portion of his business to his daughters. He has faced allegations of unlawfully granting special permits to companies linked with Burisma. Furthermore, in 2020, he became embroiled in a case involving an unprecedented attempted bribe of $6 million to officials from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. It appears that even after fleeing the country and being embroiled in high-profile corruption scandals, Zlochevsky’s gas empire remains quite secure in Ukraine.
