Lessons from Blackout on the Iberian Peninsula

A month ago, on April 28, Spain and Portugal survived a great energy failure. And although the reasons for this event have not been presented in detail to this day, it is worth asking yourself other questions.

At the finish of the presidential campaign, we focus on the results of the latest polls and reports about the life stories of candidates. In this pre -election fever, we will not focus on mundane problems such as theoretical lack of electricity in the socket or problems with shopping. Until it does not happen.
In the discussion that started after the failure, the accusation of renewable energy sources was focused on causing Blackout, and unfortunately there was no attention to whether we are prepared for a lack of power in the beautiful country on the Vistula. Having a war behind our eastern border, we devote a lot of attention to reinforcement by spending nearly 5 percent. Defense GDP. Every now and then you can hear the announcements of the construction of shelters. Meanwhile, there is a lack of extensive information campaigns and mass training in the event of situations like this when there is an energy failure. In addition to short -term fashion for evacuation backpacks, in the field of real civil defense and dealing with crises, little was done.
Organizations that actually taught young people what to do during the crisis step by step were scout relationships such as ZHP or ZHR. There you could get knowledge on how to deal with both danger and unforeseen situations. It was noted what equipment we should have in our backpack, apartment or car. Now such knowledge is provided by military training – both those conducted by Territorial Defense Forces and specialist commercial entities. But that's still not enough.
It is worth asking yourself today and what would I do if there was an energy failure and there would be no electricity for a few days? How will we secure our basic needs such as food and drink? Do we have an emergency gas machine on which we can prepare meals? There may be problems with the availability of articles in stores. Do we have the right stocks of both food that does not break down and water quickly? Have we accumulated enough medications? What about providing lighting in our apartments or homes? What about thermal comfort – today we have spring, and what would be in winter?
It is also worth considering how much cash we have? We got used to paying by card, telephone or Blik, but in a crisis we will return to “primary” times. Mobile phone – if we don't have a solar charger – it will be useful to us. And without a phone, it's like a hand, from communication to navigation. It is worth doing a simple exercise, or based on paper maps, we are able to get from point A to point B.
It is not my intention to frighten anyone, I just point out that such a failure can affect us at any time. And let it never happen, but the Pole cannot be forever wise after the damage. It is worth preparing for unforeseen situations and practicing such stress tests, because when an hour of test is coming easier for us to get through the first moments of shock and find ourselves in difficult reality.
