Trump Threatens Canada with Higher Tariffs Over Wildfire Smoke

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a warning on Truth Social, threatening to raise tariffs on goods produced in Canada. This move is aimed at securing compensation for the smoke from wildfires in Canada that has drifted into American cities.
Trump stated, “We hold Canada responsible for their poor forest management, which is leading to the invasion of polluted and unhealthy air in the United States.” He also mentioned plans to discuss the issue with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
He emphasized that this situation represents intentional negligence, becoming an annual event that costs the U.S. billions of dollars. Trump argued that the pollution costs should be factored into the tariffs that Canada currently pays.
