Blackouts may soon return to Ukraine due to power shortages following Russian attacks on the power grid. Reuters reported this on June 10, citing a forecast from the DiXi Group analytical center.
According to this forecast, even with moderate air temperatures and without further damage to the power grid, electricity shortages during peak hours could reach 0.7 GW. If the temperature rises significantly, the deficit could increase by almost 3.5 times.
Additionally, the situation may be complicated by planned repairs at the power units of nuclear power plants, which are key to the Ukrainian energy system, the publication writes.
Analysts note that hourly blackouts “will become inevitable” and shortages could occur “even at night.” In a worst-case scenario—extreme heat and more Russian strikes—the shortage could rise to 6.2 GW against demand of 15.8 GW. This is approximately 40% of the need.
