Context
On October 22, 2025, Ukraine signed an agreement with Sweden, which provides for the purchase of up to 150 Gripen fighters.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that the development strategy of Ukrainian military aviation is built on three platforms – the American F-16, the French Mirage 2000 and the Swedish Gripen, but it is the Gripen that is the priority of the Ukrainian army.
On January 1, Defense Express reported that in 2026 Ukraine expects to receive old aircraft models – up to 14 Gripen C/D units. The aircraft are equipped with long-range Meteor missiles with a range of up to 200 km. This is a fairly significant tool and capabilities that are not found in either the F-16 or the Mirage 2000-5, the media wrote.
