China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with North Korea on the most important international and regional issues, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during Friday's meeting with Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang. The North Korean leader admitted that this is also the “firm will” of his people.

During the talks at the headquarters of the Workers' Party of Korea, Wang conveyed greetings to Kim from China's leader Xi Jinping, emphasizing that in the face of the “changeable and chaotic international situation”, the two socialist countries should strengthen strategic coordination, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a note.

“China is ready to cooperate with North Korea to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of both parties and countries,” Wang said, referring to Xi's September 2025 meeting with Kim in Beijing.

In response – as reported by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Kim assured that deepening relations with the PRC is the “steadfast will and established policy” of his government and party. He announced his willingness to “strengthen high-level exchanges and strategic communication” with China and supported Beijing's position on Taiwan.

Wang's visit, the first since 2019, is perceived as a signal of warming in bilateral relations. According to analysts, they have cooled down in recent years as Pyongyang has been tightening military cooperation with Russia, which has created a certain distance from Beijing, notes the South Korean Yonhap agency.

However, recent months have brought a revival of contacts, including the resumption of rail and air connections. According to experts, the purpose of Wang's two-day visit to North Korea, which ends on Friday, is to “re-tighten” ties and coordinate strategies in the face of the tense international situation. They do not rule out that the talks could have concerned preparations for Kim Jong Un's visit to Beijing.
