Although no public opinion polls were conducted before the vote, analysts predicted that Prime Minister Albin Kurti's Self-Determination party would win again. A candidate for this office must receive the support of at least 80 out of 120 deputies in the vote. The previous early parliamentary elections were held on December 28, 2025, when a government could not be formed after the February 2025 elections. Self-determination gained over 51 percent in December. votes, and Kurti's cabinet was approved by parliament on February 11.

Opposition parties accused Kurti of trying to take full control of all political institutions in the country. The main topic of the pre-election campaign was the parties accusing each other of being responsible for the political crisis in the country.
