During two days of negotiations in Washington, the parties also agreed to establish the so-called pilot zones in which control will be taken exclusively by the army, without the participation of any non-state actors.
Hezbollah leader on negotiations with Israel. “Absurd and degrading”
Also on Thursday, Hezbollah leader Naim Kassem, quoted by the daily “L'Orient-le Jour”, stated that the agreement resuming the ceasefire concluded in April, reached by Israeli and Lebanese diplomats, amounts to capitulation.
In his opinion, these negotiations “are absurd, degrading and shameful” for Lebanon and “the majority of Lebanese society opposes them.” Kassem said the “statement from Washington” is in line with the U.S.-Israel plan to include Lebanon in the “Greater Israel project.” “The disarmament of the resistance (Hezbollah), which is the starting point for any agreement, means the destruction of Lebanon's power and poses a threat to the very existence of the people of resistance,” he added.
The Hezbollah leader called for a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon. He noted that Hezbollah's sole goal is “to end aggression, achieve a ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal.” “As long as the occupation continues, Hezbollah will continue its resistance,” he stressed and thanked Iran for its support.
