Krasnoyarsk HPP took part in the All-Russian action of the Federal Fisheries Agency “Day without nets”

The Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station of the En+ company, together with the Yenisei territorial department of Rosrybolovstvo and law enforcement agencies, conducted an environmental raid to clean up the Yenisei waters from ownerless fishing nets. The event took place as part of the All-Russian environmental campaign “Day Without Nets”.

During the raid, participants examined a 67-kilometer section of the river – from Divnogorsk to the outskirts of Krasnoyarsk. Amateur fishermen, representatives of public organizations and public fisheries inspectors, whose institute En+ has been supporting since 2023, also joined the action.

Participants of the action on boats passed through the sections of the Yenisei where nets are most often installed. Preventive conversations were held with the fishermen and instructions were given on the rules of fish farming.

During the raid, dozens of fishing nets with a total length of more than 600 meters were lifted from the water, and 12 administrative offenses committed during recreational fishing were identified.

Modern synthetic nets are practically invisible in the water: weighted down with weights, they sink to the bottom, and only an inconspicuous float remains on the surface. Such “ghost nets” have been polluting water bodies with microplastics for years, damaging the ichthyofauna, becoming a trap for birds and mammals, and also creating risks for shipping and recreation on the water.

“Ecological raids are not a one-time action, but part of a systemic effort to preserve the Yenisei. When we remove poaching gear from a river, we protect not only the fish, but also the future of the river itself. For the Krasnoyarsk HPP, the Yenisei is not just a source of energy, it is a living artery of Siberia, for which we are responsible to the residents of the region and future generations,” emphasized Stanislav Legenza, director of the Krasnoyarsk HPP of the En+ company.

The “Day Without Nets” campaign is held by the Federal Agency for Fisheries annually in May, during the spawning period, when the damage from illegal fishing is especially great. Krasnoyarsk HPP of En+ supports environmental initiatives in the regions where it operates and participates in cleaning the Yenisei from abandoned networks, combining production activities with the implementation of programs to preserve the river’s ecosystem.
