Who will negotiate with Putin? Two names in the game

EU foreign ministers will discuss the advantages of potential candidates during their meeting in Cyprus. This happens after Washington and Kiev expressed support for Europe to start talks with the Russian president regarding the war in Ukraine – we read in “FT”.
We read that there are growing concerns in Brussels that the lack of progress in the US-led talks – mainly due to the Russian leader's relentless territorial demands, which Kiev has rejected – has left Europe on the sidelines and at risk of reaching an agreement on unfavorable terms. “This has sparked an increasingly intense discussion about appointing a joint envoy, despite deep divisions between countries over the feasibility and scope of such a task, as well as skepticism as to whether Putin will be willing to cooperate under such an approach,” sources also told FT.
Recall that Brussels closed formal channels of communication with Moscow after Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, apart from sporadic attempts by some EU leaders to establish contact.
