The dialogue at 112 in the case of the crime committed by Emil Gânj, wanted for almost a year. What questions did the mother receive who announced that her daughter was killed in the house

The dialogue held by the mother of the young woman from Mureș killed last summer by Emil Gânj was made public for the first time by the Mureș Court, together with the pronouncement of the decision by which the man was sentenced to life imprisonment. While the victim's mother desperately announced to the dispatcher from 112 that her daughter was killed in the house, the operator asked her how old she was or who Gânj was, the man indicated as the attacker.

When the authorities arrived, the 31-year-old woman was found dead.

The crime in Miheșu de Câmpie

On July 8, 2025, Emil Gânj, violating the protection order that had previously been issued in his name and in favor of the victim, Anda Gyurca, went with an ax to his ex-girlfriend's home. There, he destroyed several windows and the entrance door, entered the house and hit the victim in the head with the ax several times, causing her death. Later, the man sprinkled the victim's body with a flammable substance and set it on fire.

The 37-year-old man has two active convictions. The first, in 2011, for qualified murder. He had started serving his sentence of 15 years and 6 months and was to finish it next year, on January 4, 2026. But he was released on parole on November 24, 2020 by the Târgu Mureș Court.

Despite the search, Gânj was not found even ten months after the crime was committed. The authorities were alerted several times by citizens who said they had spotted a man with his signals, but none of the operations resulted in his capture.

The victim's parents said that the young woman's ordeal began last February, after their daughter was kidnapped by Emil Gânj, and later managed to escape. The family claims that they had to call 112 to report one of the policemen: the latter would have pressured the girl to declare that she was an accomplice to the kidnapper and that she helped him escape.

The 112 operator, according to the recording published by the Recorder, warned the father that if the accusations are not confirmed, he could be fined 4,000 lei.

On Tuesday, the Mureș Court sentenced Emil Gânj to the maximum penalties provided by law for all the crimes for which he was sent to court and was tried in absentia: qualified murder, destruction by arson, desecration of corpses and failure to comply with the protection order, and he was forced to pay 510,000 euros in moral damages to the victim's family, according to the solution published on the court portal. The court's decision is not final and may be appealed.
