VIDEO Iran targeted a nuclear facility in Israel, but the missile hit near / Anti-aircraft system missed interception. Dozens injured

More than 30 people were injured in an Iranian ballistic missile attack on the town of Dimona, home to Israel's main nuclear facility. Tehran announced that it was targeting this area as a “response” to the attack on Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment center, an attack for which Israel claims it bears no responsibility, The New York Times, The Times of Israel wrote.

The Israeli military confirmed a “direct impact of a rocket on a building” in the city and said air defenses intervened, but the interceptors failed to bring it down. Investigations have been initiated to determine the cause.

The teams of Magen David Adom (MDA, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross) announced that they had taken over “a boy of about ten years old in serious condition, with shrapnel wounds”, and a “woman of about 30 years old, injured by glass shards”, wrote AFP, quoted by Agerpres.

The organization also said it transported 31 people to hospital who were slightly injured by shrapnel while they were on their way to a shelter. Another 14 people were taken to hospital because they were showing symptoms of anxiety, according to the MDA.

An area susceptible to attack

Dimona, a small Israeli town in the Negev desert, is home to the Shimon Peres Nuclear Research Center, so the area is particularly vulnerable to attack.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) called for “maximum military restraint”, but said it had received no signal of damage to the nuclear facility.

“Information from regional states indicates that no abnormal levels of radiation have been detected,” the IAEA also said.

Little public information is available about the Dimona nuclear site. Israel, which maintains a policy of “strategic ambiguity”, has neither confirmed nor denied that it has nuclear weapons.

Iran said its nuclear facility near Natanz was hit on Saturday morning, but that there was no radioactive leak and no danger to local residents in the area. The Israeli military has denied hitting the nuclear facility there.

US and Israeli airstrikes had already targeted Natanz in this war, and the nuclear facility was also hit in June 2025 during the 12-Day War.
