Schoolchildren who helped put out a forest fire were awarded in Krasnoyarsk

In Krasnoyarsk, two schoolchildren who helped extinguish a forest fire on the Esaulovskaya Loop in the Sosnovoborsky District were awarded. This was reported to the regional Forest Fire Center.

Brothers Georgy Kotov and Demyan Pustoshilov brought water to the fire site on cross-country motorcycles. They delivered backpack forest fire extinguishers to where specialists were fighting the fire. Georgy is studying in the 10th grade at the physics and mathematics boarding school at Siberian Federal University, Demyan is in the 9th grade at school No. 161. At the ceremonial assembly, the schoolchildren were presented with certificates and valuable gifts.

“My uncle, brother and I were riding motorcycles and saw a fire. A fireman with a backpack forest fire extinguisher full of water was climbing the mountain past us. We volunteered to help. We made several flights to the very top. I even tried to carry a full backpack on foot. It’s very difficult, although I’ve been doing sports all my life,” said Georgy Kotov.

The fire occurred on May 1st. According to experts, it was caused by the launch of a rocket launcher. In dry and hot weather, the fire spread quickly. Due to the mountainous terrain, equipment could not be used, so the fire was extinguished manually. The fire was extinguished on an area of ​​17 hectares. 40 specialists from the regional Forest Fire Center took part in the fire extinguishing effort.

First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry of the Territory Alexey Bolshakov thanked the schoolchildren for their help.

“The action of the young people became an example of caring and courage. It's nice to know that our future is in such good hands. Their civic position demonstrates their willingness to take care of nature,” noted Alexey Bolshakov.

The culprit of the fire has been identified. During interrogation, the 56-year-old man said that he launched a flare gun in honor of a hiking trip. The damage to the forest fund amounted to more than 800 thousand rubles, he has already paid this amount. He will also have to reimburse the costs of extinguishing the fire in the amount of about 1 million rubles.
