Sorana Cîrstea came tired in Rome
Tennis in Târgoviște abandoned at the last moment and was replaced by Australian Olivia Gadecki (23 years, 92 WTA). A day ago, Gadecki was losing 1-6, 3-6 in front of the Ajla Tomljanovic (32 years, 79 WTA).
The decision taken by Cîrstea is the second of its kind in less than a month. In mid -April, the Romanian withdrew from the WTA 125 Oiiras tournament in Portugal, due to a foot problem.
Just three days after the remarkable performance in Madrid, where Sorana Cîrstea and Anna Kalinskaya won the title of double, the Romanian will return to the field in another European capital. Cîrstea aims not to repeat the result from the first round in Madrid and, this time, to have a longer evolution in the simple competition.
In 2024, Sorana Cîrstea achieved her best performance at the Rome tournament: the finals. There, Veterana was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Madison Keys.
On the main picture of the Rome tournament there are two players in Romania. Gabriela Ruse (27 years old, 88 WTA) has passed two qualifying laps and will take place on Wednesday, May 7, with Polina Kudemetova (21 years, 57 WTA).
In contrast, Jaqueline Cristian (26 years old, 74 WTA) has already passed the first round of Foro Italico (6-2, 6-0 vs. Alycia Parks) and will face Yulia Putitseva (30 years, 29 WTA) in the second round.
