With whom do the parliamentary parties consult

We remind you that the National Liberal Party announced on Sunday, May 17, the composition of the delegation that will go to the consultations in Cotroceni on Monday, convened by the president Nicușor Dan to appoint the future prime minister: Ilie Bolojan, Dan Motreanu, Cătălin Predoiu, Ciprian Ciucu and Adrian Veștea.

Dominic Fritz, president of USR and mayor of Timişoara, said on Saturday, after the meeting with interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan, that USR and PNL coordinate their positions in view of the political consultations convened on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace by president Nicusor Dan. According to him, the two formations will convey that they cannot support a form of government in which PSD is found.

The PSD delegation that will be present at the consultations at the Cotroceni Palace will be made up of: Sorin Grindeanu, Claudiu Manda, Marian Neacșu, Gheorghe Șoldan and Alfred Simonis.

The Hungarian Democratic Union in Romania will participate in consultations with a team consisting of: Kelemen Hunor, Miklós Zoltan, Túrós Lorand, Tánczos Barna and Cseke Attila.

Kelemen Hunor, the president of the UDMR, conveyed on Friday, May 15, at the meeting of the Council of Union Representatives in Cluj-Napoca, that the formation wants to participate in the government after the elections, but does not rule out the option of the opposition, which it does not consider a threat to the party.

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians will be represented by: George Simion, Dan Dungaciu and Petrișor Peiu.

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians sent on Sunday, in a statement, that the president must respect the constitutional procedure and appoint a candidate for the position of prime minister only after the consultations have been completed:

We want these consultations to be real, effective and loyal, not a legal formality. The parties called to consultations must be able to present their position, the political solution they propose and the conditions under which they can support or participate in the formation of a Government. AUR is the second parliamentary party and represents the will expressed by the vote of millions of Romanians. The President is obliged to respect the constitutional procedure, the role of the Parliament and the principle of democratic representation”.

Diana Soșoacă: the decision to participate, left “in the hands of the people”

Diana Șoșoacă, the leader of SOS Romania, announced, in a video message, that she will ask the Romanians if the party should participate in the consultations in Cotroceni.

Șoșoacă states that neither she nor SOS Romania recognize Nicușor Dan as president, but emphasizes that the Presidential Administration represents the Romanian people, regardless of who holds the position of head of state.

Sosoacă claims that the invitation addressed to SOS and AUR would have come on the basis of “huge scandal” generated by his efforts to suspend the president.

One year after the appointment of Nicușor Dan as president, Romania is governed in an interim manner

The consultations take place one year after Nicusor Dan won the presidential mandate (second round – May 18, 2025). The need to appoint a new prime minister appears after the Ilie Bolojan Government was dismissed by a no-confidence motion.

The motion, initiated by PSD, AUR and PACE – First Romania parliamentarians, was adopted on May 5, with 281 votes “for”, 4 “against”, and 3 votes were cancelled.
