The Nobel Prize winner from Iran received another sentence. Her health condition is poor


Narges Mohammadi is a 53-year-old human rights activist in Iran. She was arrested on December 12, 2025, in the northeastern city of Mashhad, along with other activists. This happened after she spoke during a ceremony commemorating a lawyer who died in unexplained circumstances. As explained by Nobel laureate Mostafa Nili's lawyer, Mohammadi was sentenced to 6 years in prison for participating in the assembly and alleged conspiracy to commit a crime against state security, as well as 1.5 years for “propaganda activities” against the authorities, PAP reports.

The Nobel Prize winner's lawyer is counting on her being released on bail

Additionally, the Nobel Prize winner was banned from leaving the country for two years and exiled for two years to the town of Khusf in the eastern part of the country. Her lawyer expressed hope that due to Mohammadi's poor health, she could be released on bail temporarily for treatment. He also added that the judgment is not final and may be appealed.

Over the past 25 years, Mohammadi has been tried and imprisoned numerous times for her involvement in the fight against Iran's death penalty and strict women's dress codes. She spent most of the last decade in prison and has not seen her two children, who live in Paris, since 2015. In December 2024, she was released for three weeks due to poor health
