Bolojan says clearly what he will not accept after the consultations from Cotroceni

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan firmly reconfirms that the PNL will no longer govern alongside the PSD and announces the transition to the opposition if the Social Democrats enter the Executive.

“Thanks to the experience I had in these ten months of government, due to the avoidance of responsibility that the PSD made, due to the lies it propagated throughout this period, due to the blockages facing the reforms that Romania must put into practice, the PNL will no longer form a coalition, in the next period, with the PSD”, said Ilie Bolojan on Saturday, after the meeting with the extended County Office of the PNL Timiş, according to News.ro.

In the conditions in which PSD will be in government, “PNL will be in opposition”, he also said. In the meeting of the National Political Bureau of PNL on May 5, Bolojan imposed the adoption of an official resolution by which the party refuses any alliance with PSD and decides to go into opposition

The Liberals' position is in line with that of USR President Dominic Fritz. The two leaders agreed on Saturday, before Monday's consultations, that both formations refuse any form of government alongside the PSD.

Bolojan stated, however, that his party does not run away from responsibility and is looking for a formula by which Romania can be governed in the short term. In the future, however, the liberal leader is thinking about the upcoming elections.

“The medium-term objective, for 2028, is to create an alternative for Romanians who want to modernize the country, so that they find in the PNL a party they can vote for with confidence in 2028. It is an important objective, for which I will devote my energy to the reform of our party”, says the PNL president.

Consultations on Monday at Cotroceni

President Nicușor Dan will open on Monday, at the Cotroceni Palace, the series of official consultations with the eight parliamentary groups, and the first group invited to the discussions is the PSD.

The head of state gave assurances this week that the current political crisis in Bucharest will have a pro-Western solution. In addition, the president excluded from the start the scenario of early elections, citing the constitutional difficulties of such a scenario.

On Friday, Nicușor Dan stated that he will not announce the name of the new appointed prime minister in the first two days of the week. During meetings with political leaders, his absolute priority will be to identify a clear parliamentary majority that can support the future Government.
