According to the Kyiv Independent website, anti-aircraft defense has been activated in the capital. Explosions were heard. The head of the military administration of Kiev, Tymur Tkachenko, announced that fragments of Russian drones hit buildings in several districts of the city. Recordings of burning apartment blocks appeared on unofficial channels on the Telegram platform, Reuters reported.
The Ukrainian air force also reported Russian missile attacks on other regions of Ukraine, including the Kharkiv, Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts in the north and the Poltava oblast in the center of the country.
Massive attacks by Russia
On Wednesday, Russia launched a sustained air attack on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, launching hundreds of drones. Air alerts were announced, among others, in the Volyn, Lviv and Zakarpattia oblasts, which border Poland.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia's massive attack on Ukraine on the day of US President Donald Trump's visit to China was not accidental. He added that at least six people were killed and dozens more were injured, including children.
Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for his first official visit to China since 2017. His meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Zelensky expressed hope that Trump would raise the issue of ending Russia's war with Ukraine in Beijing.
