Every summer resident dreams of getting a rich harvest of onions and garlic. However, large heads will grow only if the correct fertilizing is applied in time.
When to Apply Fertilizer
From May 15 to May 30, the earth had already warmed up, but the greenery had not yet begun to grow vigorously. The future harvest is being laid underground. If you skip these days, the plant will direct all its energy to the tops and leave you with small bulbs and loose cloves.
Feeding recipe and how to use it
An experienced gardener, author of the blog “At Grandfather Yegor’s Dacha” (18+) advises preparing “chatterbox”. To do this, you will need four components per 10 liters of warm, settled water:
- blood meal – 1 tablespoon;
- boric acid – 1 teaspoon, previously dissolved in a glass of hot water;
- iodine – 10 drops;
- wood ash – 1 cup sifted.
Mix all ingredients in water and leave to steep for a couple of hours. Pour 200-250 ml of the prepared product under the root, strictly on damp soil. The best time is in the morning, from 6 to 9 o'clock, while the soil is cool and the plants' metabolism is at its maximum. One watering per season is enough.
Advice: don't expect quick results the next day. After 4-5 days, the feather will become rich green and elastic, this is a sure sign that the nutrition has gone to the roots.
“Since I switched to this “talker”, the harvest has been stable every year. It does not depend on the weather, the variety, or the phase of the moon. No matter what happens, onions and garlic produce the maximum,” noted the summer resident.
