The President of Romania is at the EU Summit in Armenia. Nicușor Dan met with Prince Albert II of Monaco

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, met on Monday with Albert II of Monaco during the European Political Community Summit in Yerevan, emphasizing the good bilateral relations between the two states.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Prince Albert II of Monaco at the Yerevan Summit. Romania and Monaco share not only good bilateral relations, but also a constant concern for multilateral cooperation, the rules-based international order and a peaceful and secure European continent. It is a partnership that we wish to strengthen together from now on”it is stated in the message published on Facebook by Nicușor Dan.

The head of state is participating in the eighth meeting of the European Political Community held in Armenia on Monday.

The leader from Bucharest also participated in the meeting on the Vertical Gas Corridor, going to take part in the second meeting of the European Coalition against drugs and preside with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, at the round table dedicated to the theme “Democratic resilience and hybrid threats”.

The debates will cover democratic governance, combating disinformation and information manipulation, cyber security, defence, education and monitoring technological developments, including in the field of artificial intelligence.

“Within this format, the President of Romania will support the need for a more coordinated approach at the European level, strong and transparent institutions and effective preventive measures against disinformation and external interference, with the aim of preventing current vulnerabilities from becoming long-term structural risks”, states the Presidential Administration.

Support for the Republic of Moldova

In Yerevan, the President of Romania will also take part in a new meeting of the Coordinating Group (Core Group) for the Republic of Moldova, an informal multilateral mechanism to support its security and resilience. Established in 2024 at the joint initiative of Romania and France, the group aims to strengthen the coherence of the international support given to the Republic of Moldova.

The eighth meeting of the European political community will meet in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 4, 2026, under the motto “Building the future: unity and stability in Europe”. Leaders from across the continent will discuss cooperation on democratic resilience, promoting connectivity and strengthening economic and energy security, according to a statement from the Council of Europe.

The summit will be co-chaired by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinian.

48 heads of state and government were invited to the meeting of the European Political Community. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will also attend the summit as a guest.
