“The transition of the Crimean Tatar language to the Latin schedule has continued since Ukraine gaining independence, and this process has already been completed,” the report said.
The president’s representative office in the ARC noted that “the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine made an important step towards preserving the linguistic identity of the Crimean Tatar people when he supported the proposal of the State Service of Ukraine for the Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience regarding the use of the new spelling of the Crimean Tatar language, approved by the National Commission on Crimean issues.
“This document is the result of large -scale work, which continued since 2023 in accordance with the government order. The spelling is based on the alphabet approved in September 2021, and provides for the use of Latin graphics corresponding to modern language trends and the historical tradition of the Crimean Tatar language,” the release explained.
The rules cover spelling, training, use in media, literature and toponymy. They are recommended for use by all state bodies, including local and military administrations, including in the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea.
