Modernization of the airport in Szczecin. A terminal for the growing number of passengers

The aim of the investment is to adapt the port infrastructure to the growing number of passengers and improve the quality of passenger service. According to the Marshal's Office, the project is intended to enable more efficient service for both the region's residents and tourists.
The Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Olgierd Geblewicz, emphasized that the local government has been supporting the airport in the implementation of new projects for years, allocating almost PLN 50 million for this purpose. He also added that the region is one of the most frequently visited in Poland, and the expansion of the airport is expected to contribute to the further development of tourism.
A new passenger terminal with an area of approximately 20,000 m2. square meters is to correspond to the forecast increase in air traffic. According to estimates, after 2040, the airport will be able to serve up to two million passengers a year, while currently this number is about 600,000. The current work, carried out in stages, should be finalized in 2027.
Terminal expansion. It is intended to attract tourists and business
The project involves the construction of an integrated terminal complex that will replace the three existing buildings. The new terminal will also consist of three facilities, and one of the existing buildings will be modernized. Additionally, a new facility will be built, which will initially serve as a temporary arrivals hall, and in the future will be used for airport services. All elements will be combined into one coherent system.
Maciej Dziadosz, president of the management board of Szczecin-Goleniów Airport, pointed out that the new terminal will allow for comfortable service of over 200-seat aircraft that regularly use the airport. He also noted that the port is used not only by residents of the region and business representatives, but also increasingly by tourists from Poland and abroad.
Terminal expansion. Who finances the investment?
The co-shareholders of the Szczecin-Goleniów Airport are Polish Airports and the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Both parties agreed to finance the investment by increasing the share capital: Polish Airports SA up to PLN 94.4 million, and the West Pomeranian Voivodeship up to PLN 48.1 million. In total, this amounts to approximately 75%. eligible investment costs, which amount to PLN 190.2 million.
The works are carried out in stages, which allows for maintaining the continuity of the port's operation. First, new facilities are created to take over operational functions, which enables the gradual implementation of the target terminal layout. According to the schedule, the new terminal is to be ready in 2027.
Regional airports in Poland. There is a boom in investments
The airport in Goleniów is small, outdated and looks very “local”, and there are not many connections – most of them are emigration destinations (such as Liverpool, London, Dublin or Oslo), as well as LOT connections to other Polish cities. The expansion of the port is intended to help change this.

Similar investments are no exception, because in recent years it has been clearly visible that other regional airports in Poland are also entering the phase of expansion and modernization. In Kraków-Balice, further expansion of the passenger terminal and operational infrastructure is planned to cope with the growing traffic, which is already among the highest in the country. In Gdańsk, the airport named after Lech Wałęsa systematically increases its capacity, developing subsequent parts of the T2 terminal and adapting the infrastructure to the record number of passengers. In turn, in Wrocław and Poznań, modernizations of terminals and technical facilities are being carried out and planned, which are intended to improve the service of both regular and charter traffic.
