As explained by the Ministry of Finance, the government assumes that the introduced solution is temporary. The reduction in VAT rates is related to the unstable situation on fuel markets caused by the conflict in the Middle East and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Reduced, from 23 percent up to 8 percent the VAT rate on fuels – gasoline, diesel oil and biocomponents constituting independent fuels – was initially supposed to apply until the end of April. By decision of the government, this rate will be maintained at least until May 15.
“The temporary reduction in excise tax rates on the same motor fuels has also been extended until May 15 this year,” the ministry adds.

At the same time, the Ministry of Finance reminds that excise tax on fuel was reduced to the lowest level permitted by the European Union – 29 gr per liter of petrol and 28 gr per liter of diesel oil.
CPN in practice
The CPN package also includes maximum fuel prices. In accordance with the regulations, the Ministry of Energy publishes an announcement on maximum fuel prices every weekday. The maximum price is valid from the day following its publication in Monitor Polski. If announced before non-working days and holidays, the rate applies until the next business day. Sales above the maximum price are subject to a penalty of up to PLN 1 million, and inspections are carried out by the National Tax Administration.
