Kilo-class units are attack submarines dating back to the times of the USSR and built to destroy enemy surface ships and submarines. The ships are equipped with conventional propulsion and accelerate underwater to a speed of 37 km per hour. and can dive to a depth of 300 m.

As for their arsenal, Kilo-class units carry 18 torpedoes, depth mines, as well as Kalibr cruise missiles and Igla or Strela surface-to-air missiles. The cost of one ship is estimated at up to $400 million, so sinking such a structure would be a huge success for Ukraine.
