Rowers donated blood in the “Blood of a Champion” campaign. Samuel Moldovan is not afraid of needles: “For me, it's a natural gesture”

The athletes of the youth team of the Romanian Canoeing Federation donated blood as part of the “Champion Blood” action, held in partnership with the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Center.

Athletes Samuel Moldovan, Rareș Bașturea, Bianca Marin, Alexandru Florea, Eduard Moldovan, Silviu Dumitriu, Bogdan Muraru, Marian Guia, Sebastian Tașca and Antonel Avăcăriței participated in the blood donation event. With them were Cosmin Macovei (coach), Adelina Marin (psychologist/mental coach) and Gabriela Marin (mental coach), who supported their efforts and encourage their constant involvement in such initiatives.
The “Blood of a Champion” campaign aims to promote the importance of blood donation among people and to convey that performance is also about community involvement, beyond medals.
By personal example, the athletes of the youth team show that discipline, courage and team spirit are also manifested in everyday life.
“For me, donating blood is a natural gesture. Just as we fight on the water for every medal, we can also fight for someone's life through a simple gesture that costs us nothing but can mean a lot to someone else. If by our example we succeed in convincing other people to donate, then we have achieved our goal“, declared the athlete Samuel Moldovan.
For her part, Bianca Marin declared: “I think it's important to be present at such actions and show that we care. Donating blood means responsibility and empathy. One donation can save up to three lives, and this should motivate us all to get involved.”
The action was carried out with the support and under the coordination of the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Center team, and Dr. Lucia Grijac, director of the institution, was present with the athletes.
“We are glad that the Romanian Rowing Federation continues this campaign and that the athletes keep coming back to donate. Romania is in constant need of blood, and the involvement of young people who represent models for society has an extraordinary impact. Donation is a safe, controlled act, and the need in hospitals is daily. Through such partnerships we manage not only to replenish the stocks, but also to build a culture of donation, based on responsibility and solidarity“, said Dr. Lucia Grijac.
The “Blood of Champion” campaign, now in its fourth edition, aims to save lives and transform sports performance into an example of civic involvement.
