“Sincere thanks to everyone who chose to get involved, individuals and businesses alike. Your involvement makes a difference and proves that together we can bring hope where it's needed most. Onbecause no child should feel alone,” David Popovici sent on social networks at the end of the fundraising campaign he launched on April 6 for the benefit of 12 teenagers growing up in a family home built by Hope and Homes for Children in the 4th sector of the Capital.

The Olympic champion and the Hope and Homes for Children foundation aimed to raise 50,000 euros, an amount that would support the care of the 12 teenagers he met in the home built for them by Hope and Homes for Children. At the end of the campaign, 51,288 euros were collected.

“Thanks to David for his genuine engagement”

“Thank you to everyone who donated and chose to be part of this journey. Each contribution is more than a gesture – it means a constant presence in the life of a child. Thank you to our partners who joined this initiative and made it possible for the message to reach further. And last but not least, we thank David for his genuine involvement, for the time he gave to the children and for the way he brought their reality close to people – with empathy, modesty and together we showed that “home” can be built, step by step, by an entire community”. also conveyed Hope and Homes for Children.

The 12 teenagers who will benefit from the donated amount are aged between 13 and 18; six of them practice performance judo, with results at national and regional championships. All children receive support from the foundation to meet school requirements and are guided towards sports or other activities that help them develop.

Every time I visit a family home, I am glad that those children finally have a “home” of their own, but I am aware that home is not just a roof and a warm meal. It means people who care for each other, safety and confidence in the future. The children with whom I spent a few hours practice judo; some of them are national champions. The others discover other passions. Some need therapy or meditation,” said David Popovici, according to the press release from the beginning of the campaign.

David Popovici became an ambassador of Hope and Homes for Children in April 2023, a foundation that aims to close all foster care centers in Romania and provide the best possible environment for children who do not have a family.

The Olympic, world and European champion is involved annually in fundraising campaigns, which help the foundation to build new family homes and provide children in the protection system with care adapted to their needs and chances for a safer future.

David Popovici's 2026 competitive program includes at the end of this month the National Championships in Otopeni (April 22-26), the Sette Colli competition (June 26 and 28), in Rome, and then the European Championships in Paris (August 10-16).
