Nicușor Dan: “As a matter of principle, I want a second term”. He confirmed that Bolojan is not resigning

Nicușor Dan was invited on Thursday evening to Europa FM, to the show produced by Sebastian Zachmann, a journalist who announced on the same day that he is leaving the management of Cotidianul and Prima TV. The head of state claimed that he maintains his equidistant position in the political crisis between PSD and PSD: “All options are currently on the table”.

The main statements of the head of state:

“There will be a PSD meeting on Monday morning, in that meeting they will determine a question that will be asked throughout the day on behalf of a wider forum and it will be something. I want to say something more general than these issues. I confess to you that it is the thing that concerns me the most. We have a society after the 2024 parliamentary elections that has grouped itself into three major categories: 30% PNL-USR, let's call it reformist, a 30% conservative PSD and 40% an anti-Western direction. What I think is reasonable that in this parliamentary mandate the pro-Western forces end up collaborating to give Romania financial sustainability and progress.

It is not about political leaders. I am concerned that after each of us has recovered from the shock and awe of what could come to the election, we are back to a battle of attrition where opinion leaders incite war between these two pro-Western factions and then the political leader tries to satisfy that desire. Instead of being in a paradigm where political parties collaborate, we have returned to the old left-right struggle forgetting that we need to collaborate.

I see a lot of resentment on one side and on the other. I'm talking about supporters and I see the emotional moment with the challenge of the prosecutors' appointments in the same key. We have the group of PNL-USR supporters who want in a somewhat resentful way the dissolution or diminution of the PSD. The others as well of course.

I try to keep the role of mediator in a time when most of the supporters of these parties have strong emotions towards the governing partners, I try to mediate this social situation because in the end this whole coalition must result.

The easiest would be to be on one side or the other. In this collective emotion, if you support Bolojan the ceillats will reproach you that their standard of living has decreased because of you, if you do not support him you will be accused of opposing the reform. In my position, if I don't choose a side it's bad, but we still have to move this country forward.

(Bolojan change?) The answer to this pole crisis will come from pSD and PNL we will see the movements of each of them in the coming weeks. I will keep my role as a mediator and we will find a solution to take Rom in the right, pro-Western direction.

I am looking at all possible scenarios but I do not have a constitutional attribute to intervene on some of these scenarios. now I find that it is a dispute between two parties in the coalition, and for now this does not depend on me. When it depends on me, I will come up with a balanced solution.

(why don't you publicly support IB anymore?) We need a coalition between these parties and I don't want to be on one side or the other trying to mediate.

We are in a situation where each of these parties, in the end legitimately towards their members, will express their political action democratically. At the time, if it comes, when the president will have a constitutional attribute, I will try to bring them to the table.

It is a mistrust, a lack of support of the PSD towards a prime minister of a coalition.

It is an agreement that PSD, at this moment, is violating. If you ask them, they will say, they already do, that there is no longer a collegiality situation that allows the coalition to function optimally, PSD says.

(without Bolo) I don't want to go scripted. I see a conflict between the two major parties in the coalition.

PNL will probably respond with what they voted in Com Pol. There will be a period when I hope we will have a political agreement on some necessary parliamentary actions for the PNRR

(minority govt) It is ossible to have a minority govt that must have support in Parliament.

I have been hearing mutual grievances between parties for many months (…) I do not give advice to any party.

(second term IB) in principle, I want a second term, but the obsession that everything I do now is because I want a second term is not true at all.

I understand the responsibility that this position gives me.

(gov PSD-AUR) Contrary to all the defensive answers I gave you here, I can give you a very firm answer. For that I would have to appoint a PSD prime minister who tells me he has AUR support, I will never do that.

(gov PSD-PNL-UDMR) It is possible without USR. I want USR to be part of the majority, but without PNL it is not possible.”
