Spielberg says his new alien movie offers 'more truth than fiction'

Steven Spielberg has described his 1977 UFO film “Close Encounters of the Third Degree” as a personal “speculation” about the existence of intelligent life on other planets, Reuters notes. And his new alien film, “Disclosure Day,” will offer what Spielberg believes is “more truth than fiction.”

The director of 2005's “ET” and “War of the Worlds” told moviegoers at the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas that he decided to return to the subject of aliens after reading a 2017 New York Times article about U.S. military pilots who reported seeing mysterious flying objects.

“I really think this movie is going to answer questions. And this movie is also going to make you ask a lot of questions,” Spielberg said of “Disclosure Day.”

“All you need to make it from start to finish is a seat belt,” he joked, without giving any plot details.

Footage shown to audiences at CinemaCon offered a brief glimpse of an alien bent over a human child. The film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo and Colin Firth.

“Disclosure Day” will be released by Universal Pictures in June.
