Machete attack in a New York subway station. The police shot the attacker


The incident occurred around 9.30 local time. The attacker, who behaved aggressively while driving, he got off at the subway station and attacked people on the platform of line 7, and then in the area of ​​lines 4, 5 and 6. According to information provided by the authorities, the officers repeatedly asked the man to put down the weapon. When he refused and continued aggressive actions, one of the policemen fired. The perpetrator was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The injured were two men, aged 84 and 65, and a 70-year-old woman — suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Two intervening officers were subjected to routine medical observation due to acoustic trauma caused by the sound of a gunshot in a closed space on the platform. Investigators emphasized that the findings so far do not indicate a terrorist motive.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani thanked the police for the quick response and “stopping further violence.” He announced the publication of recordings from officers' cameras in accordance with the applicable procedure.

Governor Kathy Hochul described the incident as a “senseless act of violence.” It declared that it would take further steps to improve passenger safety.

Due to the incident, metro train traffic on lines 4, 5 and 6 was temporarily redirected, and some sections of the station were closed. The passengers were evacuated by the services and the area was secured with police tapes. Witnesses described chaos and the presence of numerous patrols at the scene.
