Group layoffs in Krakow. Visible changes in one sector

The Municipal Labor Office in Krakow received applications from 14 workplaces, covering a total of 1,290 planned job cuts.

Although the year-on-year decline may suggest a slowdown in negative trends, experts emphasize that the situation still raises concerns.
The business services sector at the center of the problem
The largest employment reductions are concentrated in the business services sector, which has been the foundation of the Krakow labor market for years. This is where layoffs are planned for as many as 744 people.
They concern, among others: companies dealing with accounting, tax consultancy, data processing, hosting and software development. The scale of reduction in this area is particularly important because in Krakow, almost every second employee of the enterprise sector is employed in business services.
A plant producing electrical and electronic equipment for vehicles also announced significant layoffs – in this case, 285 people.

Different industries, common trend
Entries include companies of all sizes and from several industries – from finance and IT, through engineering, to wholesale trade. They included both large corporations and smaller entities.
Although the numbers in individual sectors vary, the common denominator remains the adaptation of employment to changing market and technological conditions.
Unemployment is rising, although it is still low
At the end of February 2026, the unemployment rate in Krakow was 2.7%. This is an increase of 0.2 percentage points. relative to the end of 2025 and a clear change compared to previous years, when the indicator remained closer to 2%.
Although the unemployment rate remains low, the upward trend may signal a deteriorating situation on the labor market.
