Why was the villa of Basile Assan, the first Romanian to circumnavigate the world, demolished. The house in Bucharest where he lived had underfloor heating

Text: The residence of the engineer and explorer Basile G. Assan was one of the rare and valuable buildings designed in Sezession style in Bucharest at the beginning of the 20th century, today a building – an aesthetic landmark – lost.

The Sezession architectural jewel was located on the former Scaune 21-23 street (today Tudor Arghezi), and was demolished at the beginning of the 60s, with the construction of the new National Theatre, according to historian Simina Stan.

This house, which intrigued and aroused envy, no longer exists, it had a common fate with many of Bucharest's beautiful buildings.

Read, on B365.ro, about the first Romanian to circumnavigate the world and why he lived in a “porcelain house”.
