The U.S. expects the Iran operation to end in weeks, not months, Rubio says

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that the United States can achieve its objectives in Iran without the use of ground troops and expects the operation to end within weeks, despite recent deployments of additional forces to the region, writes Reuters.

Rubio made the remarks after speaking in France to G7 foreign ministers about the Iran conflict launched by the US and Israel late last month.

The U.S. secretary of state said the U.S. is meeting its war goals of destroying Iran's missile and drone capabilities and factories for the production of these weapons, as well as its navy and air force, and expects to complete the operation in “weeks, not months.”

“We are ahead of schedule in most cases and we can get them done without ground troops, without any,” Rubio was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Iran may decide to “establish” a toll system in the Strait of Hormuz

The head of US diplomacy also stated that the US had “exchanges of messages and indications from the Iranian system about the willingness to discuss certain things”, but that there is no answer in the peace agreement. He added that the US was waiting for further clarification on the people “we will be talking to” in the negotiations with Iran.

Rubio also said that Iran could decide to “establish” a toll system in the Strait of Hormuz, writes Agerpres, citing AFP. He emphasized that such a system was unacceptable and called for this to be prevented.
