The recall notice covers nearly 75,000 vehicles in Volkswagen's electric “ID” range, as well as nearly 20,000 Cupra Born models produced between February 2022 and August 2024, writes the Daily Mail.

However, of all the cars affected, just over 2,000 are registered in the UK and only a very specific model.

According to notices issued earlier this month, a fault in the high-voltage battery modules could lead to reduced range and even fires.

Vehicles brought in for service will receive a free software update. At the same time, the high-voltage battery will be inspected and, if necessary, individual modules will be replaced, the notices state.

A Volkswagen Group spokesperson said: “We have identified that in limited-run ID-series vehicles, one of the high-voltage battery modules may not fully meet our technical specifications.”

To Auto Express, a VW representative added: “As a result, a reduction in electric range or the illumination of a yellow warning indicator in the vehicle may occur. In very rare cases, there is also the possibility of thermal overheating at the level of a battery module, which, in extreme situations, could lead to a fire”.

Although the problem globally affects several models in Volkswagen's ID range and the Cupra Born model, the UK division has specified that the recall only affects owners of Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S produced within the aforementioned 18-month period.

According to the company, this would “only” affect 2,261 drivers in the UK.
